Full calendar month

Monthly & Semi-Monthly Time Card Calculator

A whole month of punches on one card. The row count follows the real calendar — leap years included — and overtime is still scored week by week.

Biweekly2614 days, always
Semi-monthly2415 or 16 days, varies

Semi-monthly and biweekly are the pair most often confused. Semi-monthly lands on fixed calendar dates, so the period length shifts with the month. Biweekly lands on a fixed day of the week, so it is always exactly fourteen days.

Overtime still belongs to the week

A monthly card is a reporting convenience, not an overtime unit. No jurisdiction sets an overtime threshold against a calendar month. This calculator groups your month into seven-day weeks from the start date you choose and applies the rule to each week independently, so a heavy week early in the month is not diluted by a light week at the end.

Choosing a start date

For a true calendar month, set the start to the 1st. For a semi-monthly second half, set it to the 16th and leave the trailing rows blank. Because weeks are counted from that date, aligning it with your employer's workweek keeps the overtime split accurate.

Exporting a month of hours

A full month is a lot of rows to retype into payroll. Use CSV to import the card directly, PDF for a records copy, orPrint for a clean sheet with the navigation and controls stripped out. Copy link puts the entire card into a URL if you would rather send it to a manager for approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between semi-monthly and biweekly?

Semi-monthly pays twice a month — typically the 1st through the 15th and the 16th through month end — producing 24 paychecks a year with a variable number of days. Biweekly pays every fourteen days, producing 26 paychecks a year. They are not interchangeable, and the number of workdays in a semi-monthly period changes month to month.

How is overtime handled across a whole month?

The month is divided into seven-day weeks starting from your period start date, and the overtime rule is applied to each week on its own. Overtime is never assessed against a monthly total, because no overtime law works that way.

Does the calculator know how many days are in the month?

Yes. Set the period start to the first of the month and the correct number of rows appears — 28, 29, 30, or 31 — including leap years.

Can I use this for a salaried timesheet?

Yes. Leave the hourly rate blank and turn off pay calculation to use it purely as an hours log for project tracking, client billing, or attendance records.
